Did you know the iconic red and white cane for the blind was invented in Peoria in 1931 by Elmer Thomson? Today, the Central Illinois Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired continues his legacy by providing these canes and teaching essential skills for independent living. Supported by the Steamboat Classic Presented by PNC, the Center offers education, social events, and community-building activities to empower visually impaired individuals in Greater Peoria.
