Cause for Celebration: Kara Goucher

As a part of our Cause for Celebration series presented by PNC, we’re spotlighting Kara Goucher, one of America’s most versatile and accomplished distance runners. A three-time NCAA champion at the University of Colorado, Kara launched into the professional scene with fearless momentum, earning a silver medal in the 10,000m at the 2007 World Championships, making her the first American woman in history to medal in that event.

Her success only continued. Kara placed an unforgettable third at the 2008 NYC Marathon, running the fastest debut marathon ever by an American woman at the time. She followed it with a podium finish at the 2009 Boston Marathon, solidifying herself as a competitive powerhouse on the world stage. She is also a two-time Olympian, representing the United States in both the 5,000m and 10,000m in 2008, and the marathon in 2012.

Gritty, courageous, and endlessly influential, Kara Goucher has left a lasting mark on American distance running - inspiring generations of athletes to chase bold goals with heart.
