Cause for Celebration: Bethany McCoy
As part of our Cause for Celebration series, presented by PNC, we are celebrating Bethany (McCoy) Carr, also known as “The Machine” for the way she tore up the course and the track!
At Metamora High School, Bethany was unstoppable. She was a two-time All-State runner in cross country, leading her squad to a program-best fifth-place finish. On the track, she collected six state medals, finishing runner-up in the 800m not once, but twice, while also adding hardware in the 1600m and 4x800m. She dominated the Mid-Illini Conference all four years and wrapped up her senior year as the Journal Star Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year!
Bethany carried that same fire to Olivet Nazarene University, where she became a multiple-time All-American, a three-time national champion, and set 11 school records. From Metamora’s finest to a collegiate powerhouse, Bethany’s story is all about grit, speed, and greatness!
