Cause for Celebration: Maggie Carroll-Butterfield

As part of our Cause for Celebration series, presented by PNC, we are honoring Maggie Carroll-Butterfield: a standout runner whose talent and consistency made her a force on the cross country course and the track.

During her career at Illinois, Maggie competed in seven Big Ten Championships and three NCAA Championships, earning Midwest All-Region honors and six Big Ten All-Academic selections. She posted personal bests of 17:33 in the 5K and 21:01 in the 6K, helping the Illini capture their first NCAA Midwest Regional title in 2006. Earlier in her career, she earned Big Ten Runner of the Week honors, took second-team All-Big Ten, and represented Illinois at multiple national meets.

From high school state medalist to NCAA Championship competitor, Maggie’s career is a story of grit, speed, and dedication. Today, we celebrate her lasting impact on the sport.
