Cause for Celebration: Maryjeanne Gilbert

In the spotlight this week for our Cause for Celebration series Presented by PNC is RC’s very own Maryjeanne Gilbert!

Maryjeanne is a Peoria Notre Dame alum who made her mark as one of the most dominant distance runners in Illinois high school history. A two-time Class 2A Illinois State Cross Country Champion, she also earned state titles in both the 1,600m and 3,200m, setting PRs of 4:53 and 10:23—both school records.

She was named the Gatorade Female Runner of the Year in Illinois and recognized as an All-American after finishing runner-up at the 2015 Foot Locker Nationals. That same year, she also claimed runner-up at the New Balance Indoor Nationals 5K, setting an Illinois state record.

Maryjeanne even represented Team USA in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country International Challenge, finishing 14th among a world-class field.

Her success, leadership, and dedication continue to inspire young runners throughout the region, and we’re proud to celebrate her story!
