Cause for Celebration: Priscilla Welch

In the spotlight this week for our Cause for Celebration series Presented by PNC is Priscilla Welch!

Priscilla’s story will inspire anyone late to the running game. At the age of 34 she was a pack a day smoker with no real athletic background or training history. In 1978 she was stationed in Norway with the Navy and took up jogging as a way to fill her time and fight the boredom!

Trading cigarettes for a pair of tennis shoes, she started to take her training more seriously and at 36 ran the London Marathon in 2:59. At 39 years old she ran in the first women’s Olympic marathon 1984 games in Los Angeles, coming in 6th and setting the women's British record at 2:28!

Priscilla is proof that it doesn't matter where you start, what your age is or habits you haven’t yet kicked, it is about taking the first step and beginning your personal journey to better health and wellness.
